We all got bored during the quarantine of 2020, right?
Well one of the things I worked on was painting an Italian renaissance tile print on a discarded coffee table.
I took the neighbor's old table and painted and then varnished it so I could bring new life to it. The print I used was from a Dolce and Gabbana fashion show. It was one of the maillolica prints that I really like. I ordered the fabric to make my own Dolce and Gabbana shirt, but it was going to take several months to ship to me so I painted this tea table in the meantime.
Before starting this project, I wanted to make sure I knew what the table would look like. I created some masks and played with proportions in illustrator to give myself a 2D mockup of the table before starting, and measured out the main rectangle to keep the proportions semi-regular as I went along painting.
Instead of using a painter's palette, I used an old pair of jeans. So in addition to a beautiful table, I have a funky pair of jeans that I will hopefully continue painting in and on!
